rant.
First off, GET ITTTTT, NINTH CIRCUIT.
Secondly, I get real frustrated when anyone tries to make the argument that gay marriage is in some way wrong. But especially so when minorities, get all high & mighty (or baseless & ignorant) about it.
THIS IS A CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR PERSONAL/RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. If you don’t like gay marriage, don’t get one, but don’t think for a fraction of a nanosecond that you have any ground to stand on to deny that right to gay couples.
It wasn’t even fifty years ago that the African American community made a stand for our rights. Our grandparents and parents are still here and can testify to the awful, terrible things they had to endure before and during their journey toward equality. Are people really so shortsighted that they can’t realize that this the same injustice, just with a different victim? And no, gay rights groups haven’t had hoses or dogs turned on them, and the gay community isn’t made to ride in the backs of buses or use different water fountains, but you can’t look at all the teenagers who have committed suicide, or all the incidents of people being brutalized for their sexual orientation and think that just because this bigotry isn’t as institutionalized, that it isn’t as serious of an issue and worth taking a stand against.
If gay American citizens have to follow the same laws and pay the same taxes, they should be able to get married, end of discussion. Attempting to outlaw that is unfair and unconstitutional, and if you think otherwise you need to take a good, hard look at your life and your choices.
